It would be fair to say the weather has been absolutely crazy this summer!

Sweltering hot one day and torrential storms the next. Such has been the weather.

As I prepare for a wedding this weekend, as I do every weekend of the summer and fall, I thought it might be a good idea to write about care and handling for flowers, especially on hot days.

Rule of Thumb: The Flowers Do Only As Well As We Do!

Here are a few tips:

  • If it’s really hot and we need to head for the shade, it’s a pretty good idea to take the flowers along with you if you can.
  • If it’s so warm that you wouldn’t stay in a hot car with the windows closed or the air conditioning off, chances are your flowers won’t either.
  •  Unless you absolutely love them and are willing to put up with the extra care that certain water thirsty flowers come with, then don’t choose them.
  • If they are bouquets, keep them in their vases if they’re hand-tied so they can drink (from their stems) and put boutonniere on right before you’re going to need them.
