How to choose your Wedding Bouquets

The wedding bouquet is a gathered arrangement of flowers that is carried by the bride and her bridesmaids.

The endless possibilities of the wedding bouquet are narrowed down by these five factors:

  1. the time of year that the wedding is taking place
  2. the style of the wedding
  3. the colour palette
  4. the style of the dresses
  5. the preferences of the bride

The season
Are you a spring bride who loves tulips? Or a summer bride who desires peonies? Or maybe a early fall bride who wants dahlias? The time of year that you get married will determine your options. In season simply means available.

The style of the wedding
Is the wedding formal or casual? Luxury or relaxed? Classic or rustic? Is it in a five star hotel or inside of a vintage barn? A formal wedding and attire that reflect a polished and finished look may call for clean styled wedding bouquets. As opposed to casual bouquet, which you may want to have looking like they were picked out of your garden.

The style of the wedding will also dictate the finishings of the wedding bouquets such as a formal full satin ribbon for an upscale look or open ending bouquet tied with twine or jute.

The colour palette
Before you see anything, you will notice the colour. Is it soft or bold? Simple or colourful?

The style of the dresses
Longer dresses are more formal, shorter dresses can be considered more casual. Material and colour will also gives lots of clues about the wedding bouquet should be.

The preferences of the bride
Last but not least, all of the above is overriden by the preferences of the bride. Seasons and styles can be reversed just on her say so. Winter can be in summer. Spring can be in fall. She gets to decide.

When these five factors are mixed together they uniquely produce a different combination of possibilities.

For instance, Janice got married in July. She wanted a natural look and feel to her wedding with seasonal offerings. The palette was a mono palette of varying shades of purple. She loved roses. What was created for her bouquet was a seasonal offering of peonies and lavender with the element of roses.

Care and handling
For flowers to stay there best, it’s always good to remember that they will only do as well as you do on a hot or cold day.
