Yellow.

Every colour exudes its own character. Green is serene. Red is powerful. Yellow is pure happiness.

On it’s own in pale shades mixed with ivories or in all its splendour of golden shades, there’s nothing quite like it.

Assunta and Richard’s wedding at the Shangri-la Convention Centre was a perfect and elegant blend of water, candlelight and flowers.

Fabulous Spring Wedding Flowers

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Last post, I featured Lisa and Tony’s personal flowers. This week I want to give you a little glimpse into how the flowers for the bouquet carried over to the centerpieces.

An account of black could be found everywhere for the simple gathered backdrop I created for them along with the runner to tie everything together for a little hint of modern flair.

When I met with Lisa and Tony last year to discuss their April wedding, she was very keen on spring flowers and I was more than happy to oblige.

Beautiful parrot tulips and anemones in soft pastel colours of the new spring were to be incorporated in everything along with fuller blooms for a lush look.

Contingencies for Mother Nature

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

I think that this weekend was another reminder that Mother Nature has and will always have a mind of her own.

Two weekends ago it felt almost like summer and this past weekend was but anything but. I think that was freezing rain that I saw coming down on the roof on Sunday morning.

While it’s just an inconvenience on a regular day, the weather can be a major last minute game changer if you were planning on getting married in a garden and having your evening fare under the stars in an open patio.

While venues usually have contingencies it’s always good to make sure that it’s something you’ve covered on your end. In fact, it may even decide whether you choose the venue ultimately or not, and in more subtle affect your final decisions about the type of ceremony arrangements or centerpieces you opt for.

Always Nice

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

I’m always grateful for the notes of thanks that I receive after the wedding.

I know of the relief and sometimes exhaustion that comes after the big day has come and gone and I am always amazed that the time taken by a weary albeit blissful bride and groom to write a thoughtful note.

I received this from Lisa and David whose wedding at the Boiler House I wrote about last week.

Reprinted with their permission, naturally.

Thank You Lisa and David! It was my pleasure. All the best to you!

Early Spring Wedding At The Boiler House

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Lisa and David’s wedding this past weekend at the Boiler House reminded me all over again, how there’s always a way to add your own special twist to a venue and it’s never the same twice.

If you’ve never been there, The Boiler House has certain distinct features. The two story feature, with the upper lever overlooking the lower. The wooden cubbies that separate the lower dining hall from the bar, the bridge of sorts that offers the most interesting of vantage points for the head table.

A fresh contemporary feel was the choice of theme for Lisa and David. Floating candles aglow in square glass with crisp white orchids as the main feature.

The bridal bouquet hinted the arrival of spring with white tulips mixed amongst luxurious callas and green orchids.

The white orchids sheaths carried by the bridemaids transferred over into an inspiring tablescape once they were back at the reception.

Spring Cleaning

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

With the first day of spring around the corner, I think I’m ready to let it go.

Over the years, I have built up a rather formidable collection of books and magazines that contained pictures and ideas that I thought would serve as inspiration for my clients and now all this time later, I think that the time has come.

I have some of the very early editions of Martha Stewart magazine and books which I can’t bear to part with, but I’ve learned over the years, that my clients bring with them all the inspiration a florist ever needs to create something unique, beautiful and personal.

Whether it’s a binder or USB key full of ideas or just a description or a story of how they want the day to look and feel, I have always found it to be more than enough.

Ranunculus?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Sounds like the name of a dinosaur, but actually it’s the name of a beautiful delicate spring flower that looks like a rose in a picture until you see it in real life and realize it’s only 2/3 the size.

Circular and thin delicate petals, it’s one of those flowers that always catches your eye and if your lucky enough to get married in the spring it’s yours to be had.

It can be found in the all the colours of the spring. Pure white, vibrant yellows and oranges and pinks of varying shades.

Winter Wedding At Graydon Hall

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Maggie and Jeremy’s winter wedding at Graydon Hall this past weekend was truly lovely.

The evening began with a ceremony in the chapel under a traditional Jewish chuppah

and celebrations took place afterward in the dining hall filled with floral encircled lanterns to greet the guests at their tables.
