Lavish Lilies

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

“Aren’t they smelly and don’t they ruin clothes?”

These are usually the major concerns with the lily and the remedies are simple and shouldn’t stop anyone from using this most amazing flower.

In answer to the first one, they don’t all smell. Depends on the type.

As for ruining clothes, the pollens should always be removed then no issue.

As a flower, it’s positive qualities far outweigh any potential downsides to them.

1. They come in the lovliest array of colours. Please don’t ask about blue :-)

2. They are large bloomed so they’re very dramatic when used in large arrangements.

Light and Dark Pink Wedding Bouquet

I thought I’d continue from last week on the topic of colours for wedding flowers and revisit a colour that ever enduring and regardless of the never ending options that seem appear will always be a popular choice.

Pink as a colour for wedding flowers is timelessing enduring as the ultimate colour of romantic, it can be displayed in its classic soft pastel form or for those looking for a little more pop can incorporate the brighter shades it comes in along with bright green accent to give it that modern twist.

Modern Wedding At The Gardiner Museum

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Alice and Junho’s beauiful summer wedding  took place at the Gardiner Museum in downtown Toronto across from the Royal Ontario Museum.

The clean contemporary lines and colours of this beautiful venue were the perfect backdrop for their clean minialist centerpieces in cream and pink set in square vases in varying heights.

Orchid accented branching set on floor length vases set the stage for the sunset ceremony.

The dramatic family style tables that have become the table shape of choice for the chic were lined with clusters of cream and pink flowers.

A Fairy Tale Wedding

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Maria and Andy’s wedding at Graydon Hall Manor late last month had the makings of everything that could be considered romantic about a wedding.

It was of course in the ultimate and classic colour of romance - pink and cream flowers EVERYWHERE.

From a gorgeous floral wreath to greet guests at the gate, to a fully floral arch overflowing with hydrangea and roses complete with floral hedges at the ceremony, this was only the beginning of the floral feast that awaited the guests.

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

With the peony season coming rapidly to an end, I thought I would tease all you late spring early summer brides of the following year of what you have to look forward to.

Whether tied together on their own or mixed with roses or any other flower that might suit your fancy, the peony is perfect.

With a perfect view of the city from every vantage point, this floor to ceiling windows room filled with cool black leather lounge furnishings and brushed steel copa tables.

From orchid bouquet in two different shades of pink to lime accented containers filled with white hydrangea, pink gerberas and green berries, this wedding was certainly not your traditional pretty in pink.

Warning: If You Love Peonies

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

I thought I’d continued on the subject I started last week about seasonal flowers.

So far this season, the bloom that seems to be the favourite flower of choice among brides-to-be is the peony.

There’s only one problem. Well, it’s a problem if you are not getting married right about now and so consequently I have had to break a lot and I mean a lot of bad news.

For brides getting married between the months from July to March, peonies are not going to be available save for a few unexpected pockets here and there, but they could never be guaranteed.

They are absolutely gorgeous it’s true, but they’re also only available for a limited time only.

Plan on getting married between late April and Mid June. It’ll greatly increase your chances of getting this flowers.

So if you really love this flowers you’ll have to risk getting married when the weather will probably be unpredictable, but you’ll have the flowers you love.

Pretty In Pink Updated

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

These days it is common to expected the unexpected with what a bride and groom may choose for their wedding flowers.

However, as distinct and as large a variation that can be seen in weddings these days, there are some things that never change.

One of these things is and will always be the choice of pink as a part of a mixed colour scheme with other flowers, or used all on its own in varying shades.

It is the ultimate colour to express romance and all things pretty.

Most traditionally and still classically beautiful is the use of pink in varying shades of soft and pastel shades.

But now in addition to the creamy subtles tints of pink, deep rich shades of pink found in cherry and fushcia convey a bold characteristic is a part of the “new” colours to be seen in weddings.

It can also be mixed with other colours of similar strength to convey a rich a lavish sensibility not seen earlier with the softer shades of pink.
