Contingencies for Mother Nature

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

I think that this weekend was another reminder that Mother Nature has and will always have a mind of her own.

Two weekends ago it felt almost like summer and this past weekend was but anything but. I think that was freezing rain that I saw coming down on the roof on Sunday morning.

While it’s just an inconvenience on a regular day, the weather can be a major last minute game changer if you were planning on getting married in a garden and having your evening fare under the stars in an open patio.

While venues usually have contingencies it’s always good to make sure that it’s something you’ve covered on your end. In fact, it may even decide whether you choose the venue ultimately or not, and in more subtle affect your final decisions about the type of ceremony arrangements or centerpieces you opt for.

Planning On An Outdoor Ceremony?

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Getting married underneath blue skies on a sunny day. It’s picturesque and a lovely thought.

One major consideration that doesn’t always come to mind first is the more subtle aspects of the weather since your right in it.

There will always be a breeze.  Even if it’s ever so gentle. That’s what we would want especially if it’s a slightly warmer day, right?

However, this breeze depending on how subtle it can also keep things from looking just so.

It will move things, whether it’s the gentle swaying of the fabric draped on an arbour or the runner that’s been laid on the floor. Flowers arrangements that have enough weight so that slightly stronger winds won’t take them away are also things you’ll rely on your florist to keep in mind for you.

Winter Wedding At Graydon Hall

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Maggie and Jeremy’s winter wedding at Graydon Hall this past weekend was truly lovely.

The evening began with a ceremony in the chapel under a traditional Jewish chuppah

and celebrations took place afterward in the dining hall filled with floral encircled lanterns to greet the guests at their tables.

Looking Forward To The Spring

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

It’s gonna be a long winter.

Sub-zero…it feels like it’s been this way for months and it’s only the beginning.

The trees and flowers have closed up shop for the year with the only decoration being the snow that’s on the ground.

But contrary to popular thinking spring flowers can be found now. Grown with love in greenhouses. You can bring spring indoors 5 months ahead of schedule.

Seems like just yesterday, when wedding season was just beginning and the beautiful flowers of the spring were in their prime.

Ideas for Winter Wedding Flowers

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

While the winter is certainly not the peak time for a wedding, there are those who choose this time of year to get married.

Maybe it’s the idea of creating the perfect indoor theme to match the winter white themed created by Mother Nature.

If you are planning a white wedding, here are a few tips to create the greatest effect:

1.   Consider a cooler type of LED lighting available instead of the warmer lighting that candlelight provides

2.   Branches in their natural state or sprayed white with glitter are always a nice touch

3.   Winter greens such as cedar and pine will not only add to the feeling of winter, but will add that unmistakable sent too!

A Burst of Colour and Bling

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

After a couple of weeks of warm weather tease and with the imminent of more seasonal temperatures, I thought I’d add post a little burst of colour.

This was a bouquet that I created for Noula’s marriage to George at the end of October. No typical fall tones for this bride who opted for romantic bouquet of roses only shades of pink and purple for her autumn wedding, complete with a little bling.

It’s still one of a client’s all time favourite flowers. And when I’m preparing for a wedding that’s using them as the primary flower it’s looks like a ocean of puffy clouds.

Full and voluminous spheres of tiny blooms perfect to be used on their own or in combination with other flowers. It’s especially stunning in an imported designer shade of amethyst.

Rich Autumn Classic

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

I love the fall!

Burnt oranges, golden yellows, lavish burgundies – all the colours that signify the turning of the leaves. The last hurrah before the winter and the snow.

Mixed with berries and varied blooms for texture. There’s nothing quite like it.
